For Kerene, the physical ‘making’ of her art is what drives her practise. She’s in her element when she can explore materials and processes that create texture or sculptural elements to combine her love of assemblage, fine art photography and painting. Her inspiration comes from spaces and places near to home, in the hidden treasures of the woodlands and the changing Kent coastline.

Kerene will draw upon nostalgic reminiscences of childhood or focus on the impermanence and fragility of life and glory in its beauty, power and mystery. Her intention is to highlight the subtle nuances of the simple things found in the natural world, to share her sense of awe in the gifts we are given but often overlook and to blend this into her practice.

I work in a variety of media including photography, drawing, printmaking traditional and digital media as well as painting.

The impetus for my work derives from a desire to examine and represent the ineffable, the numinous, the essential nature of this transient world we live in.

Much of my practice examines the relationship between psychological and architectural space.

Impermanence and transformation in relation to matter and consciousness are recurring themes in my work.

I often begin my practice by working with a series of complex images from which I edit and abstract into ever simpler compositions.

Art is something I have always had a passion for. At the very start of my making career I held an intense interest in collage and printmaking, and was applying both of these techniques to my pictoral study of my home town Herne Bay. My work up until recently, has always been about Herne Bay, as I find it an attractive starting point for any project, as I always want to celebrate and reminisce in it’s post war glory.

As an artist my interests lay in several different processes. From printmaking, to photography, to drawing to assemblage. I always try and explore all of the different avenues of the tools that are available to me, this way I can always express, in some way or another, exactly the point I am trying to make. And this is what I like about my work, when I finally arrive at an outcome I feel suitably satisfied in what I have produced and in what material they are represented in.
My work lays somewhere between nostalgia and an interest in the human condition. Exploring memories and romanticism about different places and people. All through the different techniques I employ.

My art as it stands at the moment, shows an interest in conspiracy, mysticism and all things ‘Top Secret’. The work is questioning of what people believe in, and of information that they deem important to their continuation of existence. It is a nostalgic catalogue of the ‘larger than life’ tales and mishaps of the late 20th century. Bringing to light the events that have been laying under our noses this whole time.

In the future I plan to push the ideas presented in my current project, ideally through the medium of artist’s books. Juxtaposing different ideas and images in a more broad and obsessive scale.

Work includes pastiches of work by earlier artists, usually in oil paint, original oil and pastel paintings, some of it commissioned. At one time figurative subjects predominated, with drawings from life in pencil and ink. Nowadays I engage almost exclusively with abstract imagery, often involving length ratios and distortions of the plane related to the geometry of physical entities such as growth spirals and fields representing the forces of nature. However, I am also increasingly involved in the development of electro-mechanical and electronic circuits related to those fields and their study. I have an online illustrated catalogue at: – http://id.sito.org/sms.

Since fully developed artistic genres existed ~60,000 years before, on the evidence, scientific concepts appeared, it is probable that art is always in the vanguard of intellectual activity and science just follows its lead. Therefore, I have sought to experiment with basic materials to find out whether they generate unexplained observations and with theories to find out if extensions to the Standard Model appear by taking a more imaginative approach to its axioms than is usually employed. Often, experimenting with electrical circuits and mechanical devices can throw up previously unobserved results, such as the use of a solar radiometer as a switch, which have no great significance but have not, apparently, been tried. Sometimes anomalous results are produced by simulating the effects of previous unexplained devices, such as the jumping top. Usually, interesting art comes out of the illustrations for novel devices and, to an even greater extent, the ideas behind them. In turn, this is very important for developing my scientific ideas, which seem to derive from this approach in a way
that they would not do so from a text or algebra.

Russell Scott-Skinner is a painter with a truly unique and expressive visual language. From fighter to artist he has, over the last twelve years been developing and creating his own independent style of painting. The subject base is far from the aesthetics of replicated visual scenes. It sits deeply planted and focused around the exploration of the sub-conscious, where the finished work often lays devout from, or illustrating minimal colour to place all of the attention and focus upon the emotion, mood, shapes and brush work within the piece. Russell is based just South of London in North Kent but he is often covering work for clients across the UK and internationally, as such advanced booking is always recommended.

My education as an artist can be traced as far back as 1980 as seven year old. I entered a Nationwide Building society competition to design a moneybox and came second.

In 1996 I qualified from Portsmouth University with a BA Hons Environmental Design Degree. My journey in art continued and after moving to London in 1999, I enjoyed successful shows firstly as a painter and later as a curator.

My career continued with directorships in galleries & studios in Hoxton, Dalston, Camberwell and Brixton. Over recent years I’ve dedicated more time to exploring other media including sculpture, pottery, photography, film and video.
Having moved out of London, I’ve had more time to enjoy and create new work. 2010 is going to be a really good year and am looking forward to achieving a number of exciting and wide ranging projects.

Come along to the “day off” exhibtion during the Whitstable Biennale.

My current images of Skinscapes and Bodyscapes use the body and both its imperfections and perfections to create unexpected shapes often being more reminiscent of nature or a landscape than a human body. My intention in doing this is to make you really look and be aware of actually seeing, and noticing things you have not seen before, rather than taking it as its original impact of being “just a body part”.

I am a painter, printmaker and multi-media visual artist currently living and working in Kent. With a palette of diverse figurative elements, I explore emotional responses to life, colour, pattern and language. Images often develop out of quick sketches, inspired by many things such as a dream, a feeling, something suddenly remembered, a song, or a particular experience. I work with a diverse range of materials, enjoying experimenting with different art media (collage, drawing, painting and printmaking). Sometimes great surprises and discoveries come from working in an alternative medium.

My artwork has been commissioned and represented in various publications, with solo and group exhibitions showing in the UK, France, Holland, Spain, Germany, Italy and the USA.
