Born and raised in Deal. I have worked in many mediums throughout my 54 years but currently use pencil. It allows me to get the level of detail that I like in my work. I have illustrations of Deal and the surrounding area hanging in homes all over the world, including Australia, USA and France. Commissioned by people who have connections with Deal.

I have also been commissioned to do portraits of children and pets for people who like the exacting detail I put into my work.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy creating them.

Julie Ann Bull is a self taught artist who lives and works in the seaside town of Deal, Kent. Showing a natural talent for drawing from an early age she quickly developed a style of her own. Encouraged by her family, she began taking on commissions at the age of sixteen.

She specialises in animal portraiture, wildlife, with big cats in particular being her favourite and has recently developed a keen interest in figurative art. Working in all mediums she often combines them in a piece of work to achieve a particular effect. Her highly detailed animals are in complete contrast to the figurative art she is currently producing which is far more fluid in style.

Over the years Julie has exhibited her work at many local art events, including Deal Library, Port Lympne wildlife park and the Joanne Harmer Gallery in Deal where she has worked for the past twelve years.

She recently completed a dual portrait of Lord Bath which is to hang at Longleat in the portrait gallery, the only existing print of which she donated to the Haiti appeal charity auction alongside established artists such as Tracy Emin and Vivienne Westwood. A raised profile has encouraged more commission work and a demand for limited edition prints of her work.

Artist statement: Kati Saqui
I have chosen to show my chair pieces and abstract Quench paintings because they link to this venue. These are appropriate for this venue as they refer to satisfying my thirst to paint. For me, chairs are metaphors for people. Mainly self portraits that mark different times in my life. ‘ I used to describe my work as ‘ice-cream for the eyes’.

….‘Chairs support people, they create comfort or discomfort, they should facilitate freedom of movement and encourage a variety of postures for continuous support. The discomfort can cause psychological stress.
They connect the user on one level at an intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, cultural and spiritual level….. At another level these connections can be between the structural components or functionality. Chairs also have a symbolic context, to demonstrate taste, fashion…..

I studied Fine Art and Cultural studies at KIAD , Canterbury and qualified with a degree in 1991. I am primarily interested in drawing and my work centres around the theme of lost architecture and recreational sites.
