Natalie Kay Drawing Whitstable Biennale

Natalie Kay
Drawing Whitstable Biennale
19 June – 4 July, 2010
Natalie Kay is a visual artist and educator, living and working in London, but whose heart belongs to the sea. Natalie’s practice, which is based around observational line-drawings and often accompanied by text, focuses on the anonymity of the passer-by, the relationships between individuals, the artist, subject and observer, their stories, journeys and perceptions of themselves and each other.

During Winter 2010, Natalie was artist in residence at the Horsebridge Arts and Community Centre and has now returned to re-explore her obsessions, create new artworks and experience the town ‘in season’. Throughout the Biennale fortnight, she will be out and about in Whitstable¬ – observing, documenting and drawing and hopes to through create a catalogue of daily life in a working seaside town, with which permanent residents can engage and through which tourists and visitors alike can discover the heart of the community.

As the project progresses, artworks will be ‘hung’ in the streets and on the walls of Whitstable, marking the spot in which they were created – those who find a drawing are invited to keep it and visit one of the two base sites, where they will be able mark the ‘found site’ on a map.

Please keep your eyes alert – you may catch a glimpse of yourself!
