I paint solely in acrylics, landscapes mainly but also a fair number of abstract compositions. My landscapes are centred in SW France (Tarn, Aveyron) and especially around the beautiful town of Cordes sur Ciel. There are also a fair number in areas of Kent.

I am a self taught artist and have been
producing artwork from an early age. I find the creative process extremely therapeutic and enjoyable, art has the ability to relax or excite me depending on what I’m painting. I love art and cannot imagine my life without it.

I enjoy working in all mediums but acrylics and oil pastels are my favourite, I love the bright colours and rough textured look that oil pastels bring to a piece and the versatility and permanence of acrylics. I am currently experimenting with using acrylics on a variety of surfaces and finding new ways to apply the paint.

When I am in a creative mood I tend to withdraw from real life and spend my days in my own little world painting intensely, sometimes for whole months at a time!

Allison Carmichael paints beautiful French landscape painting in oil on canvas and has an ongoing show at Outside the Square, a new art gallery in Kent.

Allison Carmichael is a talented artist who also paints portrait paintings and her artwork is inspired by the human form and by the beautiful landscapes of South France.

She is particularly fond of the rich ochre earth and the azure sea reflecting the bluest of blue skies found in the Mediterranean and the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

My art is about the appropriation and restructuring of found objects and
materials that are already in existence.

I try to attract the eye of the viewer by choosing objects that they will connect to, and that are instantly recognizable by association and nostalgic response.

Starting with an initial proposal, I borrow elements that resonate with each objects history and join them together to create new narratives.

I like to explore the qualities of the mediums that I choose and create
techniques that allow the materials to create new forms.

Interested in global, social and economical issues, my inspirations originate
from popular culture dating back to the 1960’s onwards and my influences
include Peter Blake, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha and Vik Muniz.

With an underlying sense of humour and the use of parody, my finished
artworks reflect the funny side of life as well as the seriousness of reality.

My education as an artist can be traced as far back as 1980 as seven year old. I entered a Nationwide Building society competition to design a moneybox and came second.

In 1996 I qualified from Portsmouth University with a BA Hons Environmental Design Degree. My journey in art continued and after moving to London in 1999, I enjoyed successful shows firstly as a painter and later as a curator.

My career continued with directorships in galleries & studios in Hoxton, Dalston, Camberwell and Brixton. Over recent years I’ve dedicated more time to exploring other media including sculpture, pottery, photography, film and video.
Having moved out of London, I’ve had more time to enjoy and create new work. 2010 is going to be a really good year and am looking forward to achieving a number of exciting and wide ranging projects.
