This event provides an opportunity for printmakers and artists whose work responds to print to showcase their work in an exhibition across  5 venues in Margate’s Old Town from 9th – 31st Oct 1010. A very significant opportunity exists for artists to benefit from new, purpose-built studios being planned as part of the Royal Opera House Production Park in Thurrock.

The nature and location of the site, the emphasis on ‘production’, and the commitment of world-class organisations, the Royal Opera House and the National Skills Academy, are all very positive factors, and we believe that the components of the Park will provide additional opportunities for artists beyond the provision of high-quality and affordable space.

For the project to go ahead there has to be strong evidence of demand. We have been commissioned to undertake feasibility work on the studios which includes a demand study. We therefore wish to bring this opportunity to the attention of as many artists as possible, in East London, Essex, Kent and East Anglia.

This is something which may be of interest to you directly or you may know other artists who could benefit. You can comment on the proposed studios and register an interest by completing a short questionnaire, either on line, by email or post. Global depository for images of beached marine plastic objects

This online art project aims to be a place to deposit images of plastic objects found by mainly other foragers and beach combers from around the world. I intend it to be a space to hold not just the images of the lost and found objects, but also to record the names of those who find them, and the date and location of the find.

With no definitive end, and as long as participants still keep submitting images, the bank of objects will grow, as will I hope an awareness of the enormity of the plastic pollution of our worldwide oceans.

My long term aim will be to use the images deposited on this website in a real world exhibition and publication, where all contributions would be credited and recognised.

Final Call to artists – MAY DAY OPEN Exhibition 1st – 12th May 2010

You are invited to submit work that engages with the notion of May Day to mark the beginning of summer in this part of the South East. For most coastal towns in Kent it is a time of awakening, of preparing for a (hopefully) long and pleasant summer to banish the lingering traces of winter.

Work in all media will be considered. You may submit up to three images on CD or as print-outs at A4 or A5.  Please do not send original art work.

(The Harbour Arm  Gallery provides a unique and inspirational studio and exhibition space in Margate. It has a fascinating history: several of our ‘local’ visitors remember when it was a busy working harbour, and have colourful stories to tell. The harbour complements the Old Town of Margate, and is the setting for the new Turner Contemporary, which will be finished in 2011.

This summer I will be the link person and part-time curator for the Harbour Arm Gallery, and I aim to provide activities and exhibitions that complement the events planned by Margate’s other creative spaces and galleries, such as CRATE, the Pie Factory, the Ingoldsby Gallery, Turner Contemporary and the Pharmacy Gallery, to name just a few. I want to showcase contemporary artists and events that engage with the many different audiences living, working in and visiting Margate, and to create projects with artists and arts organizations around Kent’s coastline and countryside.)
