After graduating from Canterbury College of Art with a degree in Graphic design and a few years as a book designer, Priscilla began to work as a freelance artist, and has illustrated over 40 books for children for a variety of authors, including Harry Secombe, Adrian Mitchell, Julia Jarman, Michael Rosen and Hilary McKay, as well as occasionally illustrating her own words too!

After many years in London and even more in Suffolk, she is now settled in Kent with her husband the artist David Hayward and has a studio at the Creek Creative building in Faversham, where she works rather untidily, but with great enthusiasm!

This new series of pictures was inspired by the wonderful railway posters of the past. I wanted to do something different but still use a traditional style of art to capture towns in Kent.

Born and raised in Deal. I have worked in many mediums throughout my 54 years but currently use pencil. It allows me to get the level of detail that I like in my work. I have illustrations of Deal and the surrounding area hanging in homes all over the world, including Australia, USA and France. Commissioned by people who have connections with Deal.

I have also been commissioned to do portraits of children and pets for people who like the exacting detail I put into my work.

I am an illustrator, working mainly in pen and ink but I also love printmaking. I spend many an inky hour at Seal Chart Studios, near Sevenoaks. This year I am taking the plunge and joining my studio for the South East Open Studios.

I have had some lovely clients.
Each commission is totally different and is a mix of corporate, editorial and private. I just love getting a brief. My main objective is to get a client who genuinely likes my style and then work in cheerful collaboration to create something fresh and exciting. I like pictures with a little narrative and it’s always interesting to discover what other people think that narrative is.

Larry David makes me laugh and the sultan’s elephant was nearly the most amazing thing i ever saw.

Also I like: alchemy, Jung, lucid dreams, Blake, Bosch and Ballard, Leonora Carrington, Italo Calvino and Eckhart Tolle, anyone who really explores their world.

I’m a self-taught illustrator and artist from Barnehurst in Kent with a passion for drawing, characters especially. I love to give everything a face, a personality or an expression.

I love using ball-point pens to draw with and fear they are overlooked as a serious art tool. I also love using pencils, spraypaints and Uni Posca paint pens too. They rock. I also love creating art with a Mac and a mouse.

I’ve never been one to conform, which is probably why I never sought further education in my chosen field, but I feel happy. I enjoy a healthy mix of personal projects and commission work, which suits me fine.
